Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital
Tracing its origins to Chengzhong Sanatorium in 1933, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital is a Grade III Class A specialist hospital affiliated with Tongji University. Its respiratory care network includes thoracic surgery, respiratory and critical care medicine, tuberculosis, pulmonary vascular disease and occupational medicine, with longstanding experience in complex lung conditions.
History and profile
Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital developed from Chengzhong Sanatorium, established in 1933, with a longstanding focus on lung and respiratory disease. Affiliated with Tongji University, it combines specialist care, medical education and respiratory research.
Clinical strengths and departments
Fields include thoracic surgery, respiratory and critical care medicine, tuberculosis, pulmonary vascular disease, occupational medicine and lung cancer. Teams assess pulmonary infection, interstitial lung disease, chronic airway disease and complex thoracic surgical conditions, supported by endoscopy, imaging, pathology and laboratory services.
Selected medical research
Thoracic surgery teams study combined treatment approaches for lung cancer. Research published in 2025 examined neoadjuvant targeted therapy in selected patients with locally advanced, EGFR-mutant non-small-cell lung cancer. Defined eligibility criteria apply; the study is not a treatment recommendation for all patients with lung cancer.
Specialist expertise
Jiang Gening’s fields include lung cancer, tracheal and mediastinal disease, and complex thoracic surgery. Chen Chang works in thoracic surgical care and research. Their teams have also contributed to multidisciplinary development in lung transplantation.
